Why I Am Still Here: 16 Years of SG Wealth Builder
Since 2010, I have been blogging about money and stocks here at SG Wealth Builder. Over the years, my spouse has often asked me a tough question: Why are you doing this?
After all, for the longest time, I wasn’t compensated for the sharing, and blogging has led to a massive sacrifice of my personal and family time. If I were doing this merely for fame or money, this blog would not have sustained until now. We are talking about 16 years of continuous blogging, not 16 months.
Building a blog from scratch requires a tremendous amount of effort and time, with zero guarantee of success. Along the way, I have seen so many promising financial bloggers give up and turn to commenting in other investment forums instead.
The sole reason for the sustainability of SG Wealth Builder is passion.
I love doing stock research, and I love sharing my ideas. To be able to inspire or create a change in others is a form of calling. There were times I considered giving up due to family and career commitments—sometimes after a long day at work, the energy just wasn’t there. But the thought of deserting my followers was too unbearable.
I still remember when a reader requested an article regarding accredited investors because she was attending an investment talk selling high-risk funds. That was when I realized how much real-world value this blog brings to people. The words of encouragement and emails from followers spurred me to keep going.
To make a difference in others creates a profound feeling, and I want to bring our relationship to the next level. This is a blog for wealth builders, by wealth builders. It is not about me—it is about you.

7 Reasons to Join the SG Wealth Builder Membership
1. Master the Art of Managing Money
The mission of this blog is simple: “To make money, to build wealth, and to preserve wealth.” In school, we aren’t taught how to manage or grow money. This journal details the exact process of building wealth in Singapore, containing my personal strategies, insights, and analysis on stocks, bonds, properties, CPF, and precious metals. As a member, you gain exclusive, full access to every lesson and experience I’ve logged over the past 16 years.
2. High-Engagement Story-Telling
Why do thousands of Singaporeans keep coming back to this blog daily? Because cold, hard, objective data can be found anywhere—you can read standard corporate media releases or mainstream news outlets like The Straits Times or The Business Times. But their angle is vastly different from mine. Through real “war stories” (like my popular pieces “Selling combs to a monk” and “KFC founder got rejected 1009 times”), I share practical investing frameworks that actually strike a chord.
3. A Deeply Personalized, Honest Look at Wealth
Many investment bloggers only write about their winning investments, beautiful portfolios, and get-rich-quick strategies. They never reveal their worst mistakes. I provide a holistic view of managing wealth—including my silly mistakes in the stock market and painful lessons learned from buying and selling properties. You may not always agree with my views, but you will absolutely learn how to avoid the expensive mistakes I made early in my journey.
4. Uncompromising Credibility
In today’s digital age, there is an explosion of information online, leading to severe information overload. Too many free-to-access blogs sacrifice quality control just to capture eyeballs for advertisement revenue. Free information does not mean good information. I rate reputation and credibility above all else because trust takes an incredibly long time to build. My members get premium, quality articles on topics that truly matter, such as “The thin fine line between Joint Tenancy and Tenancy-in-Common” and “The Dark Side of CPF Withdrawal Limit.”
5. True Exclusivity & Direct Access
To cater to our community fairly, it is crucial to set a clear boundary between casual readers, email subscribers, and premium members.
Casual Readers & Subscribers will only get to read excerpts of my articles, and due to volume, I am often unable to reply to their emails.
As a Paid Member, you enjoy the exclusive privilege to read full articles, participate in the comment sections, and receive direct, priority email replies from me regarding your queries.
6. A Community of Like-Minded Investors
For many wealth builders, Singapore can feel very cold, competitive, and unforgiving. Growing up in a low-income family, I learned the hard way that the culture here is often “every man for himself.” My ultimate goal is to break that mold by building a community of like-minded members coming together to share views, network, and safely create wealth together.
7. Highly Affordable Premium Value
Good things don’t come cheap, and cheap things don’t come good. I refuse to make an offer so low that it degrades the quality of the content. I want SG Wealth Builder to remain a premium financial brand. For just $10 a month, you aren’t buying a temporary meal; you are making an investment in your financial education that unlocks my deep-dive premium content alongside full, unrestricted access to my entire 16-year historical archive.
Developing a Growth Mindset for Wealth
Ultimately, becoming a successful investor requires more than just stock analysis—it requires developing a “growth mindset.”
The term “growth mindset” was coined by Dr. Carol Dweck, who discovered that our core mindset completely shapes our understanding of learning, our performance in life, and—indirectly—our ability to grow our wealth. Broadly speaking, we can choose to view the market through a fixed lens or a growth lens:
The Fixed Mindset: Some people believe human beings are born with a fixed level of intelligence and luck. They assume they can’t do much to change their financial destiny, which severely curtails their willingness to learn. When they make an investment mistake, they look outward or give up entirely.
The Growth Mindset: On the flip side, those with a growth mindset believe in evolving through active learning. They are not afraid of tackling unfamiliar financial concepts and have a distinct knack for analyzing and learning from their mistakes. They are resilient, highly curious, and fundamentally motivated by long-term success.
As a wealth builder, it is critical to keep pushing yourself. Even I am sometimes guilty of falling into a fixed mindset, especially when trying to digest entirely new economic environments. But I constantly remind myself that to improve, I must overcome negative thoughts, view mistakes as lessons, and treat wealth accumulation as a lifelong journey rather than a final destination.
In the early days of my investment journey, I made amateur mistakes that were borderline stupid. I bought stocks purely based on unverified insider tips and chased hot, popular counters that turned out to be toxic. In fact, I once had a single toxic stock completely wipe out almost all the gains I had accumulated from a dozen otherwise successful trades. It felt like taking one step forward and three steps back.
Do I have any regrets? Absolutely not. Those frustrating pitfalls helped shape my core investment philosophy. I survived because those mistakes weren’t financially fatal, but I often wish I had a mentor or a dedicated tool back then to ensure my learning curve wasn’t so punishingly steep.
Our absolute best asset is our mindset. But to properly harness your brain’s potential, you have to actively invest in tools that help us make better, smarter financial decisions.
Stop procrastinating on your financial future. Start empowering yourself by investing in yourself today.
