My dream for fellow Singaporeans

As SG Wealth Builder, my dream is for fellow Singaporeans to have an equal opportunity to build wealth. That is why I chose this name for my blog. Even though I don’t work in the financial sector, through my articles, I hope that readers can gain valuable insights and learn from my investment mistakes.

Building wealth is a journey and requires a person to have a correct mindset. There are finance bloggers out there who wrote that more money cannot buy you happiness. I certainly don’t dispute this wisdom but then again, being poor in Singapore will certainly make you unhappy and miserable. If you belonged to the lower income bracket, it is understandable that you feel stressed out and insecure just trying to make a reasonable standard of living here. I have being through that phase in life and can certainly relate to this sort of feeling.

gold and silver

One thing that I must qualify is that I have not achieved financial freedom, nor am I trying to preach to readers on how to live a life. In fact, I am still a struggling middle-class income earner. But I feel that if Singaporeans can step out and share our investment or financial mistakes, collectively, we can become a better wealth builders.

In recent years, Singapore blogging community has witnessed the emergence of many investment bloggers. I am not sure whether this is a good phenomenon because many of these bloggers solely write about their stock portfolios. So I don’t see how they can value-add to readers and improve their investment knowledge. Nevertheless, there are a few investment bloggers who constantly share their analysis on stock selections, such as Investment Moats and Big Fat Purse.

I don’t often meet up with clients who are interested to partner with me because I have a day job. But Investment Moats and Big Fat Purse are two blogs which had been often being mentioned during my rare meetings with several clients. Obviously, these two influencers have managed to establish their brands over time and stand out from the rest of the competitors. Indeed, branding is important because it defines what your product is all about and helps to establish long term relationships with readers.

In this regard, a lot of credits must go to these two bloggers for their immense contributions to the local personal finance blogging community and having made an incredible impact. Nowadays, it is hard to find people with such passion and drive in sharing their knowledge unselfishly.

Another online influencer whom I would like to mention is Torgny Persson, founder of BullionStar which recently launched the BullionStar Gold University to promote the knowledge on precious metals in Singapore. Most of the bullion dealers in Singapore are interested to sell their bullion products to customers but this company differentiates itself from the rest by constantly sharing with readers the development of precious metals. From BullionStar’s website, you can tell that it is a bullion dealer with a lot of content authority on gold and silver.

BullionStar CEO

A Swedish entrepreneur, I met Mr Persson in person back in 2013 in his office at Marina Bay. He had since grew BullionStar from strength to strength and the company has shifted to a bullion shop in 45 New Bridge Road. My impression of him was that he really has a passion in gold and what attracted him from Sweden to Singapore is our safe environment and our tax exempted rule for investment grade precious metals.

I can see that BullionStar’s effort to democratize gold and silver in Singapore is beginning to show some effects. More and more Singaporeans are now aware of gold as an important asset class to hold in their portfolios. But in a city state in which most investors are still obsessed with stock trading, it will take time before gold and silver will become a significant asset in our financial system.

Join me in my investment journey and read my financial adventures for free! Through the sharing, my vision is improve and change people’s lives. In school, we don’t learn how to budget, manage our finances, build wealth and invest our money. Instead, we are taught useless subjects which we would never put to use most of the times during our working lives.

Yet, managing our money is an important life skill that is critical to our survival in the society. Many people start to realize how it is importance of managing money only when they face the prospect of financial ruins, by then which would be too late for remedies. Thus, I started this blog to share articles on finances which I aspire to make a positive impact in others’ lives.
