Young and Entrepreneurial: Singaporeans seek more opportunities to learn, grow and network

SG Wealth Builder is pleased to share the results of a recent survey conducted by Peatix, an event ticketing platform in Singapore that is passionate about building strong communities through events.

Singaporeans are increasingly keen on entrepreneurial and startup events. Specifically, 23% of participants would choose to attend startup and entrepreneurial events, and 25% want to see more of such events here. Notably, interest in these events was equally high for those aged between 25-30 and those above 40.

“This display of interest in seminars, talks, workshops and networking events to increase one’s knowledge and professional growth even amongst youths today is a wonderful testament to Singapore’s growing entrepreneurial spirit,” says Emi Takemura, Co-founder and Head of Asia at Peatix.

The Peatix Survey has also found that 88% of Singaporeans consider themselves happy, and that attending events regularly contributes to this.

These results run contrary to previous reports of Singaporeans being unhappy – in fact, less than 1% of the 600 survey participants considered themselves to be very unhappy.

SINGAPORE, Tuesday June 30th – An independent survey by global online ticketing platform Peatix has discovered that Singaporeans are increasingly keen on entrepreneurial and startup events. Specifically, 23% of participants would choose to attend startup and entrepreneurial events, with a quarter wanting to see more of such events here.

“Although gaining skills online and being on online professional networks like LinkedIn are commonplace in today’s increasingly connected world, I think people still find value in leveraging on live group dynamics in a learning environment and feeling a greater sense of familiarity when having met someone face-to-face.”

The survey also found that a business-minded view is taken towards events. Over a fifth (22%) who expressed an interest in organising events wanted to specifically host events to expand their professional network or promote their business.

The Peatix survey also revealed:
• 88% of Singaporeans aged 30 and under are happy with their current lifestyle, due in part to a vibrant local events scene.
o Results run contrary to previous reports of Singaporeans being unhappy – in fact, less than 1% of respondents considered themselves to be very unhappy.
o 63% of happy respondents attended at least one event in Singapore every month.
• Top three reasons for attending events were “to learn and experience something new” (74%), “to spend time with friends” (45%), and “to do something different” (43%).
• 69% of respondents attend events between 1-5 times every quarter. Most attended events in Singapore were in the genres of food and drink (54%), classes and workshops (50%), and concerts and gigs (48%). Notably, 55% would like more classes and workshops available to them, while 44% would like more food and drink events.
• 74% are open to organising their own event in the future to “share their passion”.
• The Esplanade emerged as the top venue for Singaporeans under 30, followed by Suntec Singapore Convention Centre and The Star Theatre at Buona Vista.

The results have been rounded off to the closest figure. Peatix conducted the independent survey between April 8-30th 2015, with a total of 600 respondents in Singapore.
